In just under 2 weeks it’s the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, it runs on the weekend of the 24th and 25th of January.
I have taken part in several of these and really enjoy them. For one hour you count how many different species of birds are in your garden, making sure that you try not to count the same bird twice over that period.
I usually watch from my conservatory as our feeders are not that far from there or my bedroom so as to not disturb any of the birds, but you can watch from anywhere you wish too! 🙂
It does help if you have put out food, have feeders or a bird table, but this is all about gathering an idea of how many birds and what species are going into people’s gardens and whether numbers are declining or increasing.
As before the RSPB are providing a bird identification pack which you can register for, download (in PDF form) or have posted to your address: Here
Even if you’re not really interested in registering, you could always just enjoy nature in your garden by helping out the beautiful animals, birds and insects in your garden by giving them a hand and putting out some food or hanging some feeders up in your garden.
I hope you have fun on the 24th and 25th of this month and you never know, you may see something completely unexpected! 😀
